Abstract

This paper examines the utilization of NBINet in Taiwan in the past six years. The article first reviews NBINet's shared cataloging system, the Chinese CATSS, started in 1991, including the accomplishments and the problems in system development. Then the paper describes in detail the background for planning the new system, its RFP and goals and the features of the INNOPAC system. Unlike the Chinese CATSS system, the INNOPAC system provides a centralized database based on client-server structure, INNOPAC also supports Z39.50 protocol, both Chinese MARC and US MARC and provides public search on OPAC and WebPAC a GUI cataloging interface on Windows. The article also describes the current hardware and software installation, including bibliographic data conversion, integration and quality control, the promotion of exchanging data with the Hong Kong University and the focus of future tasks.
