「中國現代圖書館運動皇后」──韋棣華女士對我國圖書館事業的貢獻

Abstract

本文就現存文獻為基礎，闡述美國聖公會傳教士韋棣華女士對我國近現代圖書館事業啟蒙所作出的卓越貢獻及綜論她的歷史功績，給予適度評價。除藉以瞭解相關圖書館事業肇建歷程外，期盼透過強調韋氏的人格典範，重新喚起當時的「圖書館精神」，樹立為我輩當代與後世的楷模。

This article gives an account, based on existing literature, of the outstanding contribution made by Mary Elizabeth Wood, who was a missionary of the American Episcopal Church, on the modern Chinese library establishment. It aims to offer an appropriate evaluation of her achievements. In addition to understanding the course of development for Chinese Librarianship, the exemplar of Wood’s personality is used to recall a former ‘library spirit’ lost, in hopes of reviving it as a model for the contemporary and generations to come.
