zh_TW
The East Rift Valley in Taiwan, renowned for its natural beauty and laid-back lifestyle, attracts entrepreneurs in the tourism and hospitality industry seeking a better lifestyle. These individuals, referred to as Lifestyle Migrant Entrepreneurs (LMEs), prioritize achieving a better life. While previous studies have focusedon their motivations for migration and entrepreneurship, there is limited research on their post-migration lives. This study aims to explore the motivations of LMEs and the relationship between their work and personal lives. The research questions are as follows: (1) What are the motivations for LMEs to migrate and start their businesses? (2) How do LMEs perceive and experience the integration of their work and personal lives? (3) What factors influence their work-life balance, and what tactics do they employ? Adopting hermeneutic phenomenology and purposive sampling, 12 LMEs were recruited and interviewed. The data analysis followed the logic of hermeneutic cycles. The findings reveal that LMEs migrated to improve their living environment and quality of life while simultaneously pursuing their entrepreneurial interests. They strived to create a lifestyle where work and personal domains intertwined. However, this integration can lead to conflicts and challenges in achieving work-life balance. LMEs employed boundary regulation as a strategy to manage these conflicts and achieved a dynamic balance between their work andpersonal lives. By collecting rich field data and considering the cultural context of Chinese families, this study provides insights into the motivations and work-life dynamics of LMEs in the East Rift Valley. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the lived experiences of LMEs and can serve as a valuable resource for individuals considering relocation.en_US
